How long to allow for immigration LAX?

I know it’s ‘ how long is a piece of string” question, just looking for guidance.
Planning on booking a pick up and do not know how long to allow.
We land on Thursday 17th dec at 4.05 pm.
Or should we just hop in a taxi when ready?
Staying best western plus sunset plaza, sunset blvd.

I havent done immigration at LAX in years due to flying from Dublin and Pre Clearance. I usually land in LAX as a domestic passenger and from wheels down to getting my bag at the carousel is usually 1 hour.

I would allow 90 minutes from wheels down, so I would say about 5.30pm you will be ready to walk out the door with your bags.

Just be mindful that at LAX you will have to take a shuttle from the arrivals terminal to LAXIT which is the taxi / UBER/ LYFT pick up area.

Add another 30 minutes for that.

So you are looking at about 6pm to actually leave LAX property.

The other option is to arrange a car service. Some car services will meet you at the baggage carousels and will have parked in the regular parking structure. Some car services will meet you at LAXIT pick up area.

Depends on who you are flying with. VS land at a quieter part of TB than say BA. I (and many other fibbers) book an afordable town car

affordabletowncarcompany

which is allowed to collect you at curbside right by bag claim and I allow 40 mins from landing to get into his car - he is always early and monitors flight arrivals. But it has never taken me more than 40 mins frequently much less with VS, BA has taken longer and shortest was NZ on a VS codeshare.

Edited at 12:59 PM.

If you want to book a pick-up, book a pick-up.

On any flight there are a zillion things that could cause you to be late before you reach immigration, such as a technical issue with the aircraft, causing a delay to departure, air traffic slowing your arrival or even the air bridge being faulty causing you to have to wait on the plane for an hour or two (I saw a vlog where this happened to someone just this week).

The good news is that any company that operates airport pick-ups will be well versed in monitoring the progress of a flight in order to be ready to meet you when you clear immigration.

We were prepared for a long wait in August 2019 but got through really quickly. Within an hour of landing we were on our way in our hire car. I think everything just went our way in the day. We flew BA.

This is who I’m looking at for a quote.
Never done west coast before, and always used magical express in Orlando.
So where does Affordable town car company pick up please? Assumed it was just out front of the airport.
We fly BA btw.

We’ve always been lucky at LAX and touchwood never had a long wait at immigration, We never been longer than an hour from landing to being in the hire car.

Hoping for the same next week !

Only took 20 mins from plane to baggage on Monday but it was the first day back in and really quiet. It was the same old, same old. No extra questions, just finger prints and photo and away we went.

The one time I flew with BA immigration was quick but customs after had the biggest line I have ever seen it was snaking around the baggage hall. I have GE so skipped it but it was easy an hour. There was just one customs officer taking the forms.
I think they have done away with the custom forms now do hopefully it's better
