Help Planning Last Night in Anaheim

We are first timers, myself and my two lads, to California hopefully in 7 weeks for 5 nights and I’m not sure I’m making a mistake on our last night!

I have booked us in for 4 nights Anaheim and the last night at LAX airport for easy transfer to airport for 09.15 departure to Orlando.

Should I just rebook it as 5 nights Anaheim and then get an Uber in the early hours to LAX or do you think it’s more wise to make our way close to the airport the night before. This does mean we have to leave the park before close to get our luggage and Uber to the airport hotel before check in closes at 10pm!

Just don’t know LAX and what time I need to be at the airport for a 09.15 flight or what time I would then need to leave the hotel with an Uber!

What do you usually do?

Thats exactly what I have done for my trip in two weeks time

My last park day is a Wednesday and I plan to stay until close. The next day Thursday, I have Midwilshuttle booked to pick me up at lunchtime and bring me to an airport hotel.

My flight back to Ireland is at 9.00am on the Friday. I plan to get the free airport shuttle to LAX.

In other years I have had evening flights, leaving LAX around 8pm, so I used to get a shuttle in the afternoon from Anaheim to LAX.

But this year is different, and I didn't want to have to do the journey from Anaheim to LAX early in the morning.

The travel time between Anaheim and LAX is approx 1 hour, but traffic and construction are unknowns and can add time to the journey.

That’s good to hear! Part of me wants to stay at the park until closing and have 5 nights at our hotel but I am worried about getting to LAX the next morning! I haven’t a clue what the traffic would be like at 5am!

I'm the same I'm so used to doing the journey in the afternoon and allowing plenty of time for unknowns. Also I'm using a different company this year, the shuttle company I used to used closed down, so again another unknown for me.

I flew back to UK from LAX the other week. I got a text from VS to Checkin 4 hrs before the flight and as I was driving from Palm Springs I allowed for a 4 hr drive. Neither of which I really needed in the end. LAX is undergoing major construction to add railway/metro and when finished will be outstanding - they are also building a brand new terminal just to house Delta (which VS will use) but in the meantime traffic is a real zoo - we got stuck to the ramp to TBIT where a;l international fights re currently using. But once in the terminal Checkin was a breeze - a couple of minutes. Security was busy - preTSA was closed so all PAX funnelled through but it was done very efficiently indeed but allow an hour for it. Once through I went to the lounge so I would say from arriving at the terminal to lounge was 90 minutes and not as bad as I had feared but it was clear some people had to factored in all the checks (I had done all mine online before I got tot he airport ) and were panicking at the security - they begged to jump the line but TSA were having none of it.

To be honest I am going to San Diego or another airport then take a short flight to either PSP or drive until LAX work is finished. The 4 hr standing inline when we landed nearly killed me and I cant face that again - it usually is an efficient airport but not at the moment.

Never underestimate LA traffic - it can stop for no real reason or be a breeze. I dont stress about it now as its been the same in the 40 odd years of travelling there and it never gets better or worse

Believe it or not commuter traffic may be heavy then - many commuter fights to and fro LA and some sculls start at 6am (they are staggered) - a friend of mine children have their school “lunch” at 10am ! Its a different world ……

I don’t know what I’d do in this situation.

If I was staying for longer, I might be happy to spend the last night closer to LAX but you’re shrinking a five night stay to four which (in my mind) is quite a big change, especially as on your first night you might be quite tired so you may not get full enjoyment from that night.

I think, also, it might be annoying to have to check out by 11am or so, and be enjoying the parks (I’m sure you could ask the hotel to stow your luggage for the day though).

I think all the LAX hotels involve a shuttle (none are onsite walkable) so you’d have to factor in travel time there too.

I’m not sure, but I think I’d be minded to just accept a very early start on the travel morning and stay in the original hotel.

Do you think if we called an Uber at 5am we would get to LAX for 7am.

Is that about the time I should be thinking. Is 2 hours enough to get through LAX airport?

I think that would get you there with time to spare, as that’s a full hour more than you should need even on a slow day.

I think, not sure, you may not get dropped off at the door of LAX with an Uber any longer. I would personally book a service in advance which takes you to the door. If they also pick you up, you can ask for their advice on the pick up time - they will be experts as they do it every day at different times of day.

I haven’t used such a service personally as Uber still collected from the terminal when we last went but I know MF will know

Not the right time of day I know but right now Google estimates that is a 32 minute journey.
