Mobile Dog breath!

Nope, not me (I hope &#129325 but my dog Tilly has dreadful breath. She is a Lhasa cross Maltese (lhatese) so only very small.
My vet has said that small dogs are prone to tarter build up and bad breath because their jaws are so small they can’t chew on things like a big dog can.
She is not a chewer anyway, she has never bothered with dog toys. Treats upset her tummy. She has wainwrights dry dog food and that’s it, anything else gives her bad wind or makes her sick.
Last year she had an operation on her leg, the vet cleaned her teeth at the same time which got rid of all the tarter. Even though we brush her teeth, admittedly not every day, the tarter is back and her breath is awful.
Has anyone got any solutions?
Thanks

I have two small dogs and neither has bad breath. I give them a dentastick a few times a week, I also feed then good quality dry food (from pet store or vets not supermarket) and most weeks I cook up chicken and rice for some meals. My dogs dont do well with a change of diet but freshly cooked chicken is not going to bring on an upset stomach. I think I would look to change her food, although maybe this is just the way she was made.

Instead of Dentastix, I give my dogs a raw carrot each...will she eat them? 🙂

The wainwrights that we feed her was recommended by our vets because she was a sickly pup, it’s not cheap and you can only get it from the vets or a proper pet store but she is not sick after eating it.
Chicken goes straight through her and gives her really bad wind & runs.
The dogs I have had in the past have never been like this and always treats, chicken, chewing on bones etc
So I am beginning to think that she has a hyper sensitive tummy and that’s maybe where the smell is coming from?
Every yearly check up the vet says she is perfect weight, teeth & gums are healthy although a build up of tarter.
She is 9 but acts like a puppy and very active.
Maybe we all just need a peg for on our noses lol

We also give our dog a nightly dentastik treat. She reminds us by prancing about every night around 9pm till she gets it

I’ve just started our 3 year old cocker on Plaque X. We’ve always had dogs and she is the first that we have had who has a build up of plaque 😕 ( i think it must be the way she is as she has dental chews, dry food etc as have our other dogs) she’s only been on it a week and already i have noticed a difference in the smell of her breath
