is universal worth doing?
hi,
heading to Orlando for three weeks next july/august. family of 4, 2adults and children. we intend doing Disney for 14 days and were trying to decide if the extra expense of £600 is worth spending to visit universal for a couple of days. would appreciate any advice or insights of anyone who has done both parks. thanks ] |

We went to Universal this time and are not going again next time. We liked it but didn't love it. If your kids are massive Harry Potter fans and like simulator rides then it's definitely worth a trip. We love Harry Potter and I am glad we saw it as it is brilliantly done but I dislike the repetitive simulator rides and I had to miss the proper coasters like Hulk as my youngest is too small for them but old enough to want to ride them so I didn't like making him hang around and queue with us as they make you do with child swap in Universal. It is cruel, so hubby and eldest got to ride them while I did other things to distract the youngest. That said neither coaster junkie hubby or eldest son have asked to go back either so they can't have been that impressed, they both preferred Mako.

Personally, yes. We think Universal is better than Disney. We all adore Harry Potter though so it is something of a no brainer! You can easily spend two days in the Universal parks and, if you have more to spare, I'd suggest spending longer. One tip, as you will be travelling at peak time, you might consider booking one night at a Universal hotel (Portofino, Hard Rock and Royal Pacific only) which will give you 2 days of FOLP to skip the lines (and, in August, there are some big lines!) it is a popular choice with dibbers.
I can't imagine going to Florida and not going to Universal! |

Depends on the age of your children but I would deffo say yes. Last year my two children were 7 & 10 and we absolutely loved Universal, much preferred it to the Disney parks (sorry!). We actually changed our plans and bumped a few Disney park days to go back and do Universal. Going back again next year and planning to spend more time there (and planning on trying out the new water park!) x

You'll get really mixed reviews on here so definitely do some research and decide for yourselves! I am firmly in the Disney camp and would happily give up Universal to spend all my time in Disney! We are doing just two days in Universal this year as it's my sisters' first visit and they love Harry Potter...my eight year old sister is fairly small for her age though so worried she might not get on everything in the park, I personally think Universal is suited for older children.
Enjoy whatever you decide! |

We do three days leisurely therefore if you go full on then two will be fine - just plan your time properly and get their early; we went in september last year without FOLP passes - got there at opening time, did universal studios and by early afternoon we had done what we wanted to do that day and headed over to IOA on the hogwarts express and were sat eating cake haha
I love universal and believe me i was firmly in the only disney camp prior to last year. It was a breath of fresh air from the Disney parks which tbh have lost their spark a little for me. Just to get out of the disney 'bubble' for a few days was pretty invigorating and perhaps helped me enjoy disney more after we had got back |
