Has anyone booked a european cruise through US site?

Looking to book a European cruise with MSC. However the MSC UK site is over £1500 more expensive than the MSC US site. The MSC US site states the prices are valid for US residents, however when I come to put the guest names in you can put any country of residence in in the drop down box.

I'm thinking it might be the same as a VPN where sites are tricked as to where you reside and sometimes offer cheaper prices..

Has anyone booked through a US site from the UK and had any problems ?

No I havent done it yet, but have heard about it, the biggest thing to conisder will be the terms and conditions you book under, its not just going to affect the price, it may mean you have more flexibility on cancelling or changing your cruise, (or less) you might have less protection for your booking i.e. no abta or atol conditions. Read the small print, or maybe check out the cruise forums for that cruise line and ask there.

I can't be definite, but I recall reading that MSC is one of the cruise lines that doesn't allow 'cross border' bookings.
MSC have all kinds of weird deals regarding different drinks packages offered in different countries, eg water is not provided at dinner so free bottled water is provided to US and Canadian residents, everybody else has to buy it!

I booked a Med cruise on the Disney Magic through Travel on a Dream. Don't know whether they do MSC though.

Ri am pretty sure that you book MSC now with a US TA. I seem to remember some dibbers were booked on a Seaside cruise organised by TOAD.

Might try TOAD then thanks. Tried another US company who were 1.5k cheaper that the UK sites! Went right through to the booking page that offered onboard credit, drinks packages. I wanted to double check with them before I booked it as there was no mention of offer not open to non US residents, They replied with that I can book it however they are saying I wouldn't get the onboard credit or might not get the drinks package... even though MSC offer the same drinks package for UK residents. I've contacted MSC who state I 'should' get the drinks package offer if booked with a US site... no definitive answer!

So complicated...

That's what I meant by having different drinks packages available in different countries! MSC seem to over complicate things.
Have a read of the MSC boards on Cruisecritic for background info.
We have booked on MSC Musica (Venice to Durban 24 nights) next year and in doing over 35 cruises, this is the first time with MSC and has been the most complicated! MSC do a one time loyalty scheme match (airline, cruise line, etc) so we were able to move on to MSC's highest loyalty level and got 5% off on booking. We booked direct with MSC UK - it was more expensive in the US. Then trying to work out drinks packages has been a challenge - we're not big drinkers but like a glass of wine (or two) with dinner so we opted for a wine and water package which appears very good value compared to other cruise lines.
We always price cruises on a per night basis and this is probably one of the cheapest we've done, coming in at £54pppn. I know it sounds bad, but given all I've read, our expectations of MSC aren't that high but we booked because it's an amazing itinerary visiting many places on our bucket list.
