New York - when?
I hope you can help.
My MIL has basically got free flights on BA from Manchester to New York sometime between March and Sept but question is when to go. They're in there late 60s and she doesn't walk too well. They went Australia last year but in February to avoid the heat and on days that was too hot. She's also asthmatic and worried about smog?! He's diabetic so neither in best of health. When would you recommend? |

We went at the beginning of March and it was snowing! Our first trip was the middle of May and the weather was variable - cloudy on the first day and thereafter sunny and warm but comfortable. The parks looked really pretty with the spring flowers I remember huge tulips!

I would either visit in spring or autumn. It gets really hot in New York in summer and very cold in winter! April would be lovely!

We've been in Feb, March, May, June & Dec and would say the most pleasant time weather wise was March (we went for St Patrick's Day so around 17th), bit of heat in the air but not over powering.
Feb was wet & cold, Dec was freezing but dry & May & June were exceptionally hot. As 'hideinpockets' says April might be good.

I'd avoid summer then, we went in July & it was boiling & extremely humid, I love hot weather but it did on a couple of occasions get a bit much even for me in the afternoon, had to stop off and get cold drinks quite often

We went mid april last year... I was freezing. Did have dry weather, I was wrapped up in gloves, hat, scarve and so many layers on the one day I could barely move. That being said, I do feel the cold. But even my 14 yr old had a coat on which is a rare phenomenon. So if we return we would go about a month or so later. But my husband is asthmatic and didnt have any problems. He does in London though.

My only trip, so far, was in April and it was pretty cold. I might just have been unlucky though.
We are now booked to go early August and, I fear, it will be horribly hot and humid. Hopefully we will still enjoy it.

We visited last May & the weather was great. We were there for a week & most days barely needed a light jacket. Only one day did it really rain
