Tipping luggage porters, explain please?

We are staying at a hotel in Barcelona the night before our DCL Med cruise. It's not one of the DCL affiliated ones, just a cheap and cheerful Ibis near the Sagrada Familia.

We plan to grab a taxi to the cruise port (I'm sure the hotel can arrange a taxi for us).

When we get to the port I believe we take our luggage through security and check it in, and
then it gets delivered to our stateroom later.

So ... what's this about tipping luggage handlers? Is it the people who bring your luggage to your stateroom? What if you are not there?

Or does it mean if you have booked a transfer with Disney and they carry your luggage?

It's often delivered to your stateroom when you are not there so I wouldn't over think it Gill. Should you bump into the guys whilst they are delivering it wouldn't hurt to give $2 per case.

Thanks, that's what I thought.

I've made a newbie error - the only dollars I have in cash are all $5 bills! Guess I will just have to be thought of as a generous tipper, I wouldn't feel right asking for change.

It was a long time ago now but I am sure when we went from Barcelona the case drop off point was outside, just as you go into the terminal building, but before the security checks.

Also I am sure they just leave your cases outside your stateroom door, so you probably won't see who delivers it.

BTW we also stayed at that Ibis and found it was really nice.

Have a magical time

It's your stateroom host that deliver your bags to your room (and also take them away on the last night) so you will be tipping them at the end of the cruise anyway
In the U.S we tip the baggage handlers who take your bags off you to get sent onto the ship but I can't remember in Europe if you hand them over to handlers or check them in yourself.

Ah, OK.

Looks like that $50 might not
be needed then! Might use it to pay off some of our bill instead.

Or ... I read you can tip in cash at Palo?

(Which brings up the question - how much to tip at Palo? Dinner, two adults. Do they put a suggested amount on the bill like in WDW?

From what I can remember from our WBTA, the luggage handlers took our cases outside the terminal building in Barcelona. We tipped these guys.

In our cruise last week in Barcelona and on the WBTA in 2014 the porters took our bags outside the terminal building just like Port Canaveral.
They are the folks you tip. We had two cases and I tipped 5 Euros. These guys load them on to a big trolley type thing and see them onto the ship. Your stateroom host then takes over once they are onboard and sets them down outside your room. You do not tip him/her for doing that.

Just to note, the handlers in Barcelona are from Barcelona not Disney staff so if tipping you will need to tip in Euros not dollars. I believe I gave 5 euros for my bag last time but just because I had nothing smaller. Would probably have given around 2 maybe for 1 case.
