You get 5 years and up to the date of your birthday so if you time it right you can get almost 6 years out of it, I got 5 years 8 months last time.

The annoying thing is though it means everyone in your family will have a different expiration date, mine being March and the other half August.

How long does it take to do all the paperwork/checks for the conditional approval?

I have 2 trips booked already this year and possibly one or two more likely so this could be quite useful.

Xmas delayed mine but here is the timeline.

17th Dec applied to Home Office
19th Dec approved
4th Jan applied to CBP
12th Jan approved

Now I left the gap because of Xmas and I suspect the 4th to the 12th is not the norm.

That's a lot quicker than I expected.
Plenty of time before my next trip to get something sorted.
Thanks!

1-2 weeks from submitting the CBP application to receiving conditional approval is the average I've seen reported in the last year or so. Mine took just over a week, that was a little over two years ago.

If it were just me and Mrs YT I'd do this.

Can you tell me if you need to do anything extra when you renew your ESTA? Mine is due to be renewed in October and I was wondering if it was linked to the GOES automatically.

The ESTA stands separate to the GOES, but I think the ESTA application now asks for the GOES pass id, it never used too.

You basically apply for the esta in the exact same way as before, everything links up via the passport number.
