When you check into a Universal hotel they just ask if you have a car. I presume it will be the same. They will also know as security checks you in. They will be able to tell if you are using a car in and out on entry too.

So if you book in 2019 for 2020 it would still be free? So essentially, by the 50th everyone will have to pay. Boo!
That's quite simple: you scan your magicband every time you enter the resort. If you don't have a magicband yet they would not get the scan when you check in but this could easily be rectified by adding a scanner to get out, as well. Edited at 03:08 PM. |

Not sure if Disney still does car parking slips (I last requested these in 2016) - but they used to give out slips to put on the dashboard so they knew that the car was a resort guest's. Maybe they might have a similar system where if you need a car parking slip then they will charge you for the parking?
Another thing I thought of was Magic Band scanning - but then this might not really work as a few times my friend has dropped me off at my resort, and to get in we just scan my Magic Band...

I only mention this because last time we stayed at Disney we weren't asked if we had a car and were automatically given a carparking pass (sheet of paper to put on the dashboard). And yet we didn't have a car.
And, as mentioned above, there will be some people who get a hire car part way through their stay. I've had to scan my Magicband when returning to the resort via taxi. I didn't have a car. I assume Disney will have to install some sort of ANPR system and will then check the numberplates of those cars staying overnight (not those that come and go during the day) against the registration number guests will provide on check-in. Like they do at other hotels.

Effective for new reservations made March 21, 2018 and thereafter, standard overnight self-parking is available to registered Guests for a fee of $24 per night. All parking fees include applicable tax.
