Manchester airport - is it free just to drop passengers off?

If I wanted to drop off friends who were flying out, can I do so free of charge?

Hi Jan, you could [free of charge] drop them at Jet Parks 1 (opposite Eptrop Grange hotel), the free airport shuttle will transport them to the terminal.

If the passenger being dropped off has a blue badge (not the driver), you can be allowed to the forecourt for free drop-off. The marshal at the barrier will check that the badge is valid for the passenger.
Details on the Manchester Airport website.

The charge is worse than paying to visit someone in hospital!

As above there is a free drop off, it just isn't directly outside the terminal building. From the airport website:

"All passengers can use our free drop off area, from which a shuttle bus will transport you free of charge to your terminal. Alternatively, you can choose to be dropped off directly outside the terminals and train station. The charge for this is £3 for five minutes and £4 for 10 minutes."

Think I'd rather be dropping loved ones off for a holiday than visiting them in hospital ! Plus it's a one off and for most still cheaper than public transport. As noted it's still possible to avoid it by walking a bit further.
