Epcot food and wine carb counting?
My dd is diabetic and has really been trying to get on top with her carb counting and said something is never even thought about. How can she carb count around the food and wine?
I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen any nutritional information before and basically she has just injected/corrected where necessary but this time she is aiming to be more precise. Anyone any experience of this? |

Disney don't provide carbohydrate or similar nutritional information as a rule - they are not required to do so by law and I think the feeling is that they would not want to supply incorrect information that people trust as gospel and then causes a problem (for which they may be sued, of course!).
I'm also type 1, and do like to be precise with carb counts if I can, but I also recognise that being on holiday is a time to "let it go" to a degree. In other words, I do the best I can and accept slightly less tight control than I manage at home. I'm fortunate that I have more than 25 years of carb counting on my side to help me estimate, but I still get it wrong. If anything though I tend to err on the side of caution (remember the effect of walking around World Showcase too!) but watch numbers closely and react accordingly. Do you use any visual carb counting apps? Things like Carbs and Cals can be very useful for estimating things based on size. Even if the exact item isn't in the app, you can often find something equivalent, and this creates a starting point for a best guess dose. |

What a silly world eh? That something which is helpful or health reasons could lead to someone being sued 🙄.
No she doesn’t use any carb counting apps. Generally I suppose she sort of eats the same kind of things and so “gestimates” and adjusts and tweaks. I think because they are trialling a new thing with her she is wondering about it. In the past yes it’s always been a case of more treats etc with the heat and the walking etc and her levels have always been really good over there but she was just saying how for the food around the world she wouldn’t know where to start with the carb counting as it’s odd little portion sizes etc. |

It is a bit crazy, but the way things are going.
A visual app like Carbs and Cals might work quite well. It has pictures of different food types - a lot of it is geared up to eating in restaurants in the UK, so I find that quite helpful , although UK restaurants are getting very good at publishing carb counts. With something likeFood and Wine though, she could identify the main source of carbs in the dish - say it might rice. The app then has pictures of rice in relation to a standard plate which helps to estimate how much rice is in the portion you are eating. Same thing with bread, pasta - even different types of cake! |
