I see it was a GT H so it was a modern tribute to the original 60s Hertz Renta Racer Mustangs. They were all in the Hertz Black with Gold Stripe. Folks would rent them out for the weekend and take them to the local drag strips!
I’m assuming you rented this one from Hertz ? Edit OOPS just saw the chrome Hertz badge on one of the piccies. Here is a restored 1966 Hertz Renta Racer to compare to the modern tribute you got. Wish it had been me Edited at 12:14 AM. |

The picture by Mrs Taz showing the chrome Shelby letters on the boot is exactly what we saw. The letters I mean as I wasn't concentrating that much on it.

This thread reminds me of when we took my Mum to Florida in 1992, she was so disappointed by the cars all looking so normal. She would have loved this.
Also we hired a people carrier and when we came home struggled to describe it to people, I think at that time there were only Renault Scenics in UK Edited at 10:36 AM. |

Even as a Camaro guy, that's a handsome motor.
The Shelby GT-H was equivalent to the 2006 onwards GT350. In 2015, the #001 Shelby GT-H sold for $190,000. If that's the model shape MrT saw, another Shelby at the time for non-rental fleets was a GT500 - a frankly insane 662 ponies, and contrary to European opinion, they handled well enough. In that generation, however, they still had a solid rear axle... perfect for a drag strip, actually not so bad on a smooth track; not so hot on a UK B-road with dodgy camber and potholes though! From 2015 (the shape in the current rental fleets), all Mustangs have Independent Rear Suspension. On the subject of handling, something to remember is that US muscle/pony cars were raced domestically in Trans Am in the '60s/'70s, and in European and Australian Touring Car series with great success... the Penske Sunoco Camaro is my absolute favourite from the old era of Trans Am.

If anyone who is reading this thread is going to Vegas soon and likes Shelby’s you must go to the Shelby factory. They do free tours twice a day with the company historian. They have loads of originals covering the years from the beginning then you get to go into the actual garage where they make them. It’s an amazing experience and it’s free. Been twice now

Yes rented through Hertz I remember the manager had to come out to sign it out and we had to sign our lives away before we could take it! It was a great car even though I needed about three cushions to see out properly We've got a video somewhere of it as DH made me stand by the side of the road and record him driving by to get the sound of the engine. I'll see if I can find it... It'll be a long while before we rent something like that again now we've got the kids in tow Louise
