Mobile Staycation - recommendations for a South Downs & Suffolk trip

We’ve postponed/cancelled three foreign trips this year and as cases seem to be fluctuating abroad we have decided to holiday in the UK. We have booked two Airbnb’s. One on the south coast overlooking the sea between Brighton & Eastbourne and a second in Suffolk not far from Southwold.

Looking forward to some time away, fresh air, walks and pub lunches as well as exploring more of the UK and would be interesting in any recommendations for things to do in both areas.

In Suffolk you could visit Lavenham. Beautiful old houses and nice surrounding countryside.

Pop over the border into north Essex for Constable country.

Neither is close to Southwold, they would be full day excursions.

Love Southwold! Sitting on the pier in the sunshine sipping tea and relaxing. Lovely.

Walberswick is across the river from Southwold. A pretty village with a nice beach. You can drive there or there's a ferry row boat from Southwold.

Beccles is a nice town a few miles away. It's on the Broads and you can have a wander before relaxing next to the water. I like to relax in Suffolk.

There's a few attractions in the general area like Pleasurewood Hills theme park and Africa Alive Safari Park.

The beaches are lovely in that part of the world. We love Gorleston, between Lowestoft and Great Yarmouth.

Have fun.

Alfriston is a nice little village just outside Eastbourne with a pub/ eatery the Star. Havn't been to said pub for a while but it used to be outstanding.

Rye is a bit further afield from Easbourne but definitely worth a visit, the Mermaid pub is a lovely place but pricey.

My suggestions might be a bit far as we used to stay with relatives in Worthing but we loved Amberly chalk pits museum and the weald and downland museum. Both mainly outdoors and should be good for social distancing.

Suffolk is lovely. We spent a week at Thorpeness last year, which is not far from Southwold. The beach was so quiet and a lovely walk from Thorpeness along the beach/coast to Aldeburgh. So many lovely pubs and places to visit. The Dolphin Inn at Thorpeness was great. Have a great time.
