Newbie to DLP
So no WDW this year but DD has talked us into a 3 night trip to DLP to get her Disney fix this will be our first visit. We will only be there 3 nights staying at the Santa Fe in March. Looking at getting a meal plan probably only the standard so we get a good breakfast would it be worth it , don’t want to be tied to bookings with only been there for a short time.

The hotel breakfasts have been a factor in us deciding to go for a meal plan in the past. We definitely ate better on the holidays when we had a meal plan, especially at breakfast.
We found that the standard half board was good for a stay in Cheyenne / Santa Fe - a filling breakfast to keep us going until mid-afternoon, then we’d either have a buffet meal in the park and be done with meals for the day, or have a snack then an evening buffet meal in a hotel (not necessarily the one you’re staying in - we like to have a wander around a different hotel in the evening and eat in their restaurant. Cape Cod in Newport Bay is lovely, and not much extra to pay to top up the meal plan. La Cantina in Santa Fe is also a big favourite with my girls.) You're not really tied to bookings on the standard plan. We liked to book to know we had something in place, but even in August, most standard restaurants have availability at short notice. We sometimes changed our bookings at the last minute and were easily able to get a different booking for standard restaurants on the day.

Thank you Elodie. As we are there Friday and Saturday we are thinking we will need to use the EMH and book early fastpasses to get the best from our days so maybe the breakfast could end up being a bit rushed but it doesn’t look there are many breakfast options available. Decisions, decisions 🤔🤔

You can’t book FPs, it is the old paper system.
If you like a big breakfast the dining plan is worth it. Perfectly possible to have breakfast at your hotel and make EMH. Breakfast starts at 7am and you need to be there just before to avoid crazy queues. Then it’s a 15 min stroll through the Village to the parks. Set your room phone for an alarm call from Mickey if it helps! We find if we have a buffet breakfast we aren’t hungry till about 5pm. Alternatively if you just want a coffee/pastry or a bacon roll, there are lots of options. Starbucks, Macs, Earl of Sandwich etc. You walk past them all on your way in. If you only want that then it is probably not worth paying for the dining plan. Edited at 01:42 PM. |

Thank you. We are early risers so this would be a good option. Do you know if it always 8.30am for EMH. Sorry I meant get the paper Fastpass as soon as the parks open. I like the idea of the paper passes 😊 they still use them in DisneyLand California too. There are 6 of going so will do the sums and see what works best for us all.
I have just been reading your recent trippie 😊😊 off work ill so been cheering myself up.

DLP has an offer of free half board and 20% off rooms at the moment so you wouldn't have to pay for the meal plan. That's through WDTC.

We live on the Isle of Wight and there is a coach company here that runs a trip several times a year including travel from the island, travel to Paris, hotel and tickets for a good deal £299.Whenever we price it DIY by the time we add travel we just can’t match there price. No free meal plan though we would need to pay for that separately. So trying to work out if it’s worth it or not. It £34 each per day.

How much time do you actually get at DLP though? I would say three full days is essential, preferably avoiding weekends and public holidays. And Paris is quite a way from DLP, you would waste a lot of time travelling.
Most coach trips spend so long travelling you get very little time at your destination.

We get 2 full days and an evening we are staying on site at Santa Fe . Joys of living on the Isle of Wight ( 2 ferry crossings or 1 and a tunnel to get too our destination ). We have done Disneyland Cailfornia in 2 days and fitted the majority of the attractions in they run on the same system as DLP. We will be there for EMH and stay till close 😊😊😊.
We have decided against the meal plan and will just take supplies for brekkie.
