Thanks Tom/ Scully, didn't realise that. Last few rentals in Florida gone straight to vehicle, and never gone through a toll without paying there.
So can't you buy the sunpass any more and load it with credit so you don't get the admin fee if you drive through?

Yes you can, some Villa owners do this if they visit very frequently.
For the admin fee that Alamo charges which is $19.75 it's not really worth it though for the average holidaymakers.
With some of the other rental companies it can work out cheaper to buy a transponder.

Ok good to know for the July trip. I’ll probably just pay but if I do happen to drive through I know it’s only costing me $20 on top of the tolls for the entire trip.

So with just 5 companies Auto Europe is coming out the best for an Alamo hire. There are others that will come in cheaper such as Budget etc etc. I would be grabbing the Brits price however as they are a known quantity/quality and allow 2 drivers and then monitoring it to see if any come cheaper or it drops as you can cancel with no penalty as you know.
Brilliant thanks and Sorry for late reply, loaded with the flu up here 😞

No even that expensive, if with Alamo and you go thro only one toll by mistake it will be $3.95 plus the toll. It flips when it comes to the max of $19.95 plus tolls.

If you miss the toll early in the day then you can use the express lane for the rest of that day with no further admin charge.

So if you go through once and it's 3.95, that's all you pay for the entire day?

👍 yep. And if you drive more than 5 days on toll roads it maxes out at $19.95 so you only pay tolls after that.

YT. This explains how it works.

$3.95 fee per usage day (24 hr. interval) that customer incurs tolls, plus tolls (at posted cash/TOLL-BY-PLATE rates)

$19.75 maximum fee per rental period plus tolls (at posted cash/TOLL-BY-PLATE rates)

Participation is automatic.

Opt-in decision is made when the driver elects to use EXPRESS, SunPass ONLY, E-PASS ONLY or LeeWay ONLY lanes.

Nothing to decide at time of rental.

So if you do loads of tolls on one day all you will be charged ref admin is $3.95. Do it the first and last day it's $3.95 x 2 etc etc. As soon as it becomes more than $19.75 that figure is the max they will charge.
