BA fly drive
Has anyone got any experiences of BA fly drive that they could share? We are looking at BA flights but we can get a fly drive for the same price or in one instance it’s cheaper.
Questions I had are: is the insurance it comes with ok or would we need to take additional cover? Is there generally a long wait to collect cars? Has anyone taken the car then not collected it? Thanks for your help! |

We've only done BA Fly drive once because the price was too attractive to ignore. BA WT+ with a full size car for 4 weeks was cheaper that the VS PE flight alone. We flew into MCO but assume other BA destinations are the same.
The car hire is with Avis and includes all the important insurances. Once you've booked join Avis Preferred and link the BA and Avis bookings (easily done from the web site). If you join AP you skip the terminal counter and go straight to the garage. Your car is pre-allocated though. Mick

same experince as Mick, booked and got cat D car , joined the Avis preffred program and at Miami just went direct to the garage and picked up the car. All insurance included and no extra sales pitch.

Regularly do BA flydrive. Join Avis preferred and BA exec club before you book.
Insurance is good and all in. Car collection and standard has generally been very good. Have had some billing issues in the past too but these were quickly sorted. There are several threads on it on here so you can see what to check for. Hint. If you add a single hotel night it can help bring prices down, plus gives you package protection and pay in instalments. We have used it for one night in HRH or RPR where I would be going anyway. Can also add in your preflight hotel at the UK airport and it has the same effect. Not sure what benefit of not picking up car would be. Unless staying onsite and staying staying onsite and not moving around outside WDW and trying to escape parking fees. Have a play with the "customise your trip" option, rather than clicking on Fly drive or flight and car. Strangely can work out cheaper. Accom and hotels beyond the single night are also often good prices. Keep eye on whether you are flying BA or AA codeshare - both will show up as B A flight numbers. Although some AA metal seats are chargeable they cost much less than BA metal seats. If you are a seat booker, paying a smidge more for flights with free seats may work out cheaper than BA metal flights with seat booking costs. In both instances check luggage included. We do the BA fly drive in to Tampa, which is slightly cheaper than Orlando. If it’s the first time you’ve done Avis Preferred your name doesn’t tend to be on the board, but if you just go straight to the preferred desk in the garage you are seen pretty quick. If you’re looking at Premium Economy or Club then they do a sale at Christmas

We did BA fly drive Gatwick to Tampa
No pushiness , 2 nd driver included - the only additional thing we took out was the cover for lost keys, tyres, windscreen which we did separately to BA or Avis and always do regardless of who car is with The car wasn’t as new or as clean as the Alamo ones we’ve had, but it was ok with no issues and the flights were so cheap it made it worth it.

We’ve always don’t a BA fly drive and never had any issues. We signed up to Avis preferred so went straight to the garage to get our car, and ended up with an upgrade to a top of the range suburban this year. So never had to wait a long time for the car. Having said that we’re used to flying into Miami rather than Orlando so don’t know the process there. Insurance wise everything is covered too. We’ve always found doing a fly drive much cheaper!
