Pre fitted Sat nav systems in the US tend to be subscription based, and come with a few months free use. After that it just switches off. I don’t think the hire company would pay the costs to keep it going, as it would stop a revenue stream for them. (Hiring satnavs )
So there’s no way you can be assured of getting a working fitted satnavs. You will also find the Sirius satellite radio will only work on terrestrial frequencies such as FM
This has been my experience over the past few years since satellite based radios/ sat Navs have been fitted.
It's quite different to what we get back home. But I suspect with Android Auto and Apple Carplay being more widespread this will become less of an issue

I had booked a Mustang (or similar) for a trip last year. None of the Mustangs had Sat Nav but the convertible BMW 4 series in the same row did, and it was up to date, so I took that. If you're not wedded to an actual Mustang, you might get a car with one

Hi - yes we had thought of that - no not fussed about a Mustang, so will have a good look at whats on offer.

So annoying as the Mustang we had in May/June had a satnav and it was brilliant!

Cheers

We’ve had 4 Mustangs over the last 3 years from Budget and Hertz/Dollar. The first one was base spec with no GPS and fabric seats. The others were next spec up with cooled leather seats, reversing camera, bigger alloys and GPS. Yes, it is annoying that the renters charge the same whatever the spec cars they happen to have in.

Having said that I found the Ford GPS too small and low mounted to be that useful. We always take a trusty Garmin which I renew every two or three years for about £35 off eBay, making sure of recent US maps. That way I can import my long list of favourites collected over the years (including plenty that are way out of date!)

Update - checked all 11 convertibles on offer in the line at garage (Miami) - none had working satnavs. Howeverr the Apple carplay / Sync 3 worked really well with google maps which we downloaded before departure. Showed all traffic etc - offered alternatives if traffic slow and ETA was very accurate. Easy to do - but yes did take a few minutes in garage to organise - but well worth it, as it worked consistently for 16 days.

No - no cost - just over the area you want i.e. Florida - not all of the USA
