Dollar car rental question

Received car hire documentation today. We booked a fly drive. It’s with Dollar. So no skip the counter. anyways anyone used them? What’s your experience? Do they do a Sun pass? Also says we need a credit card not debit card upon pick up. We don’t have a credit card! Last time Alamo just took a debit card. Can’t seem to log in on the website either.

And what’s the chance of flashing $20 to get something bigger? We’ve got a Sante Fe or similar which is ample anyway.

Haven't used Dollar in maybe 15 years but would advise that you read this about their Sunpass scheme. You need to be driving the 408, 417, 429 box of toll roads twice a day to make their scheme attractive.

Can't help on the CC question though

As Mick has told you above don’t use the sun pass with Dollar my last hire with them was 4 years ago and so bad I’d never use them again.

The other thing to seriously check is the level of car insurance. Not saying Dollar specifically but some fly-drives have a dangerously low level of insurance. Notably SLI (third party) can be as low as the state minimum $20,000 - you really need $1m.

Please double check.

I’ve got full cover. Will read over again though. Going to contact them re the credit card issue. I take my dad’s CC for any hospital emergencies but obviously with the car insurance needs to be in my name.

I’ve just called My Magic Holidays and spoke to a lovely lady. She’s going to call Auto and see if she can change it to Alamo. So much easier as my son is disabled so don’t want to queue at the desk. Lesson learnt next time though book it myself.

Another Dibber was stressing over a CC issue the other day with Avis. A quick search of the Avis FAQs showed what cards were acceptable. I'm sure the Dollar FAQs will advise?

Unfortunately Dollar don't get much support on here from regular hirers.

In my humble opinion you can't beat Alamo if only for the STC facility.

Good luck.
