I've been closely monitoring the car prices as we go Sept 1st for 3 weeks this year, i got a price of £750 for alamo for 21 nights last year, now they want £1400 ... Virgin Car hire are coming in at £725 at the min for my dates, i'm hoping once restrictions are lifted in May (uk) / June(US) that the prices normalise a bit but with Covid im sure all these companys need the extra money due to the income loss of the last 14 months.

I’m tempted to just book with Virgin as it’s free cancellation. Although Sixt have very good prices. I’ve just never used them before. What are peoples thoughts?

So relieved I followed Mr Tom Morrow's advice and booked early with the option of free cancellation!

Booked way back in November 2020 with Alamo via Costco for an Intermediate SUV for 14 days in late September. I had no hope we would go but thought, "what the heck, got nothing to lose". Think we got a bargain at £397.

I'm keeping a keen but worried eye on prices to, we've booked Sept 25th for 19 nights flying to Miami. I'm hoping once/ if things begin to ease the prices will drop as they'll be competition for customers. Best price at the moment is VA around £700 for an int SUV with Alamo.

I booked yesterday with Virgin. A standard SUV with Alamo for 18 nights in August - £697. I'm quite happy with that. If it wasn't for this thread I wouldn't have tried Virgin, so thank you!

I’ve emailed Andy for a quote but I’ve also realised I can get a 15% discount (NHS) with Sixt? I’ve never used them before because they were offsite but am I right in thinking they’re at the terminal now?

We’ve booked with Andy for a comparable price with Virgin.

Although the prices are high online, if you email him for a quote he will access offline prices which are significantly cheaper at the moment. He came back to me very quickly each time I contacted him.

Whilst I know Virgin has free cancellation I’m happier to book with Andy as there’s no up front payment so if I need to cancel it’s easier. Plus he gives a great service so I’d rather give him my business if the price is close enough.

It doesn’t look like free cancellation though.
