Anytime I look on the Hertz UK website all I see is 2 weeks for at least £1000 but I managed to snag a Range Rover (or similar) just over a month ago for £645. Andy was cheaper but it was for an Intermediate SUV - I decided to stick with Hertz.

My rental states that Liability Insurance Supplement is included but it doesn't state anywhere how much it covers - but as I have shown at MCO it covers $1-2M. I have asked Hertz for clarification.

I did find a Car Hire Excess insurance that additionally provides CDW (covers $100,000) and SLI (for $1,000,000) for £55 for 2 weeks - carhireexcess

Hertz have replied

"For Hertz rentals in the USA, Loss Damage Waiver(LDW) is a coverage that relieves you of all financial responsibility for the loss and damage of/to the Hertz car, whether or not you have insurance to cover such damage, provided the car is used in accordance with the terms of the rental agreement

LIS : Optional protection that provides additional liability protection for the customer, Authorized Operator(s), or Additional Authorized Operator(s) if an accident occurs.
LIS Coverage Combines the features of Primary Liability Protection with an excess liability policy to provide protection up to a combined single limit of $1,000,000 per accident for third party bodily injury and / or property damage claims (On rentals in California and Florida the maximum combines single limit is $2,000,000 for liability protection only).
o LIS Coverage also includes up to $1,000,000 of Uninsured / Underinsured Motorist Protection.
• Primary protection, regardless of state in which accident occurs.
• LIS Coverage is not available in Canada. "

Be careful as I read from the site that as £3.99 a day only includes CDW, cover with SLI ($1M) is £6.99 a day, link

Apologies, I had to dig to find that but you are correct - as I say, I find car rental to be a minefield!

Just back from a trip to Miami, had a free rental but needed to cover all other insurances. I purchased an additional Bettersafe policy just to be doubly sure I was covered, thankfully everything went smooth as clockwork. I booked 2 Hertz rentals on the .Ie site for next October before I left, on the assumption I could use the Bettersafe policy for one of those too, wow am I pleased I did, those rates have now rocketed, dates are not perfect but I’ll be working my trip around car hire not the other way until rates drop (if they ever do)
