I read this fir my FIL
Feel no Guilt in Laughter (Anon) Feel no guilt in laughter, he’d know how much you care. Feel no sorrow in a smile that he’s not here to share. You cannot grieve forever; he would not want you to. He’d hope that you could carry on the way you always do So, talk about the good times and the way you showed you cared, The days you spent together, all the happiness you shared. Let memories surround you, a word someone may say Will suddenly recapture a time, an hour, a day, That brings him back as clearly as though he were still here, And fills you with the feeling that he is always near. For if you keep those moments, you will never be apart And he will live forever, locked safe within your heart. |

I’m sorry for your loss. I would encourage you to go with what you wrote. I wrote and read something when my dad passed last year about what he meant to me, and I’m so glad I did it. It was an opportunity for me to express my love. I’m confident reading aloud but practiced it a lot as I wanted to be certain I could get through it without welling up.

Firstly I’m so sorry for your loss.
This one was read at a recent funeral of a friend’s wife, it was so moving and very fitting. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house but there were many smiles of thanks and loved memories too. Maybe add a couple of anecdotes about your loved one, did he have a particular habit in the garden or greenhouse if he had one? Was he someone who kept in touch with neighbours and friends and offered help when needed? Ask people who knew him well for more insights into the man he was before he was your grandad if you can. Their past could have influenced his life more than anyone would have expected it to. You will always have memories of him with you in your mind and your heart hold them dear and treasure them. My condolences to you and your family.

I would go with what you wrote. A personal reflection will be really meaningful.
I was going to suggest Wainwright too though!
