Credit card skimmer at Clearwater gas station

From a friend in Florida:

msn/en-us/lifestyle/...ter/ar-AAEpzP6

“Police say they've discovered a new type of gas pump skimmer targeting credit cards swiped in Clearwater.

Officers say if you recently bought gas at Pump 9 at the 7-Eleven at 205 N. Belcher Road, you should watch your bank or credit card statements closely.

Investigators say they found the skimming device after store workers called them. Authorities describe it as a Bluetooth-equipped skimmer that allows suspects to sit nearby and collect your credit card information without ever having to return to the pump.

"Our detectives always recommend using a credit card instead of a debit card if you choose to pay at the pump," the Clearwater Police Department wrote on Facebook. "It is always safer to pay inside the store, and always the most safe way is to pay cash inside."

One of the things I always pay for in cash in the US is gas, IMO it’s the most likely place to get scammed.

Same for me. In fact I like to pay cash for petrol at home too, failing that it's a credit card.

Sounds like a sophisticated scam. Such a pity they don't use their intelligence and get a proper job instead of ripping people off.

I never use a Card for fuel in America. Cash is King.

We pay cash too. Not worth the risk. I go in and hand over $20 and get a pre-paid receipt and wait at til, DH pumps the gas.
