I have a picture on there that was taken with my sister from 2005 I think, pretty sure they were giving it away for free as part of a package at the time, I always think it will be gone everytime I go but 12 years on it is still there. This has been rumoured for so long now, I think they can move them but must still display them somewhere else.

There are currently NO plans/date when or if they will be remove. It costs WDW nothing at the moment and they wouldn't spend the money unless they had to., that's not to say that they will be there forever though. There is a very vocal minority who don't like them and have been trying to get rid of them and syarting rpmours that they will be going this or that year ever since they were first put up.

Take what ever a cast member tells you with a very large grain salt for something that's going to happen that far in the future. Front line cast members are the last to know what's happening.
We will know for sure if or when a permit is raised.

It will be 2027 which is the earliest they can come down

The booklet given out to every guest purchasing it in the first place stated that “…agreeing that the image and/or sculpture may be replaced or relocated within Walt Disney World at any time, and that the image may be permanently removed on or after the twentieth anniversary of its installation,” so as the last tile was sold in May 2007 (earlier than expected due to a poor uptake - although there were 750,000 tile spaces created, Disney only sold about 550,000 after 8 years of selling) come May 2027 they can be taken down or moved (if Disney can find somewhere suitable to display them, or if they think it won't affect future attendance from the guests who may make future trips to see their picture).

I thought the stones were actually discontinued earlier than this. The tiles at EPCOT were discontinued around that period I think and I believe they said 20 years too but can't remember.

We got the Epcot one free with our tickets one year so I wouldn't be devastated if they removed them. It's not a great picture anyway!

Stan_the_man is talking about the Leave a Legacy tiles on the "tombstone" monoliths at the entrance to EPCOT. That was discontinued in May 2007. The original post was about the Leave a Legacy tiles.

Geoff just happened to mention the Walk Around the World bricks outside MK in passing. (I think the WatW bricks were discontinued in 2000 but, apparently, a small number of extra ones were sold in 2007).
