Shop around when it comes to esims, and work out your needs. Airalo is not the cheapest if you need/want more data.

For example you can get an unlimited data-only sim for £22, or a voice+data one with 500GB data for £23.50 at esim.net

If you have data only sim, you can download the Talkatone app that gives you a US number and uses voip to make calls.

The only one I have found that gives you a local number is T-Mobile. It used to be the only one with 5g (not sure if that’s still true) have used it for the last few years without issue.

If you are there for a longer time (i.e. up to 3 months) then Mint mobile does an e-sim with 3 months of minutes/text/data for $45 (therefore $15 per month). You get a US number with that. My daughter used that when on Disney's summer college programme.

We used Visible. $25 for unlimited minutes and data for a month. e-sim so only needed to download their app and it managed the setup etc. Think they used AT&T network.

Visible is Verizon.

They're not compatible with all phones, so also consider US Mobile.

I’ve just signed up for Tello. They have an e-sim available from $5 per month and you can activate it in the UK over WiFi and use a UK billing address.

It allows you to keep your US number and make inclusive calls over WiFi as long as you keep the minimum monthly plan.

You can then just scale up to a plan with more data for any months you are in the US, then scale down afterwards.

5GB data for a month is $11

I’ve posted a referral code in the referral page on here where you can get $10 free credit.
