London advice - going to US Embassy
Evening all! Just after some advice as my son has an appointment at the US Embassy on a Monday morning at 9am. We’re coming from Lancashire so trying to decide the best way to do things. Trains are ridiculously priced so was thinking of driving down the night before, staying at a hotel and then getting an Uber to the Embassy. But we don’t know London at all so not really sure where the best place to stay would be. Any advice greatly appreciated 😊

My daughter went down the night before. Stayed in an Airbnb near Leicester Square and got the tube to the embassy in the morning.
The embassy is near Battersea so if you can stay in that area you could walk in the morning. |

Whenever we go down to London we park at Stanmore station as it's really cheap and close to the M1 (Jct 4?) then you can get the Jubilee line straight into London. Travelodge Vauxhall doesn't look too far from the Embassy

It might be worth mentioning that my son went to the Embassy several times just over 10 years ago for Visa interviews, and had to take any supporting documentation in paper format because they did not allow any bags or electronic devices into the Embassy. I appreciate things may have changed by now but it would be good to check first.

We were there in December. We had to turn on our phones and show the guard before going in, then went through scanners. Very quick and easy.

If you are staying a Sunday night look at accommodation in the city not the west end it can be really cheap search around Liverpool Street it’s nit close to the embassy but you will get a bargwin

Whenever we take the car down to London we always stay at either the Coach & Horses in Kew (free parking) or the Hampton by Hilton Docklands (£15 a night).
It’s not easy to find a hotel in London with reasonable parking, especially if you have a big car so I would find a hotel with this over its location. It’s pretty easy to get over to the Embassy from anywhere. |

If you are driving from the north then personally I would get a hotel in North London & get the tube to the embassy on Monday, looks Like vauxhall is nearest tube on the Victoria Line
saves crossing London in traffic with added with danger of entering the congestion zone & saves paying extortionate hotel parking |
