Cats are free spirits and should be respected as such.

Medical assistance dogs (i.e. hearing or sight impaired, alert dogs) are acceptable. Emotional support animals no. I love my dogs and always feel happier around them. I wouldn't take them to Aldi though.

I hope Asda doesn’t ban my therapy Crocodile. It helps me cope with annoying people as it eats them.

Wow I didn't know there were PTSD dogs, what a fantastic idea. I have no problems with any dogs being allowed in supermarkets to help with mental health, I think it is a great thing and mental should not be treated any differently to any other disability.

IMO a service animal is a trained service animal, ie guide dog, seizure alert, diabetic alert . The service animal should be insured, provided by a service and trained to support ie autism support which responds in a trained manner .
Locally someone was all over social media as she had lost her service animal , a FERRET. Lots of people have "pets" that provide emotional support. My cat provides comfort, companionship, a reason to get up every morning. BUT she's a cat, her life isn't to be dragged to the pub/supermarket it's to eat fish & have a cosy bed. I do feel people have jumped on the bandwagon , just like the sunflower lanyard previously worn to identify additional support may be needed, now worn by the "don't want to wear a mask". The more "on trend " the less those that need support become seen. Gluten free is now a real trend some of us don't have a choice. I no longer wear my sunflower lanyard (visual/hearing impairment) & just struggle on as so many people wore them they lost meaning imo. While I'm not disputing the gentleman's need for support who is ensuring the cats best interests are met. Support animals need regulated, insured, trained. |

Currently in the Animal Kingdom. Just seen a Lady with a baby sling with a Daschund type dog in it. All scrunched up with its back in a curve. Never right.

I thought proper assistance dogs had paperwork, I know our school dog has to undergo intense training etc and so does my friends assistance dog ( for son with major sensory issues), although you can just buy a jacket it has to be backed by accreditation.

The last time I was there a woman had 3 yorkies with her and was just coming off the buzz light year ride with them, unbelievable I’m sure even if they were trained they wouldnt be trained to go on a theme park ride.

I’m one of those annoying woke people and my heart goes out to anyone who struggles but I wouldn’t like to see an ‘unofficial support cat’ in my local supermarket.
Official support animals are properly trained to not be phased in such situations. A self appointed support cat may not have had this training and could cause all manner of chaos. It’s not fair to the cat, let alone other shoppers. |
