Car hire rules

Last time I was in Orlando I hired a car from Holiday autos and picked it up from Alamo at the Hyatt regency hotel on international drive. I don't remember exactly what happened but I think I got ripped off by buying some sort of extra insurance. I've just been back on Holiday autos and they have a deposit insurance that is optional. Will I be told I need this when I pick up the car or will I be ok just ignoring it?

The company I will be getting the car off this time is EuropeCar straight from the airport.

The additional 'insurance' Holiday Autos offer is to reimburse your excess in the event of damage/loss. If you hired a car over here for example and the excess was £1000 you would still get charged this by the rental company in the event of an accident, but could claim it back from Holiday Autos. It's nothing to do with the rental company and isn't the same as zero'ing your excess with them directly where you then wouldn't have anything charged.

To be honest I can't see the point in taking it with Florida rentals as they're all (I think - at least the ones I've looked at are) a zero excess anyway. I presume it just gets offered at the end of each booking with Holiday Autos as part of the process but as far as I can tell it's pointless.

Hope that helps!

I've never rented with Europecar but most reputable car hire companies will included all necessary insurances in the price and there is no excess. You need Loss or Collision Damage Waiver and some sort of supplemental liability insurance plus all the necessary airport fees and taxes. Anything else is personal choice.
