First Time DCL Cruisers: Questions

Hi All,

We're booked up for our first DC in October on a Halloween on The High Seas, a 3 night Bahamian Cruise, Disney Dream.

I may think of more, but for the moment could anyone let me know on the following.

1. What to wear on each night for Dinner?

We won't be doing any of the specialised dinners, however the Rotational, how is the wear for each one? I wasn't planning on taking trousers, nor dress shoes, but not sure if I'm going to look a right pauper if I don't, lol. Certainly no tux. I was planning on a shirt with kinda matching shorts and canvas shoes, but not sure if I'm going to be way too underdressed?

2. Is there a Pirate Night on this cruise, or is it replaced by something Halloweeney? If there is one, what night is it?

3. Is there any fireworks on the cruise and what night is it?

4. With it being Halloween, outwith the decorations or such throughout the boat is there any nights that go hand in hand?

5. On Castaway Cay, I'm not planning on any adventures, just lazing about the beach and a play in the water and hopefully grab a character or two. Is this possible and are there any tips on doing so i.e. interaction with any characters?

6. We're on 2nd seating for dinner. I'm not sure whether to switch or not, I believe the shows will be fine, but don't want to be missing out on any deck parties, fireworks or such if we're on the later dinner?

As said, this maybe the tip of the iceberg come questions, but just wanting to try and grab as much info as I can.

TIA

As its disney you will see a whole range of clothing so its hard to tell. The official rules say no shorts for dinner I believe. I always go for trousers/skirt and a top a bit like I would wear going out for dinner in the UK.

2. Is there a Pirate Night on this cruise, or is it replaced by something Halloweeney? If there is one, what night is it?
Can't answer but if you look on disneycruiselineblog you should be able to find similar itineraries and the navigators for these that will tell you

3. Is there any fireworks on the cruise and what night is it?
If there's a pirate night then yes they are part of that

4. With it being Halloween, outwith the decorations or such throughout the boat is there any nights that go hand in hand?
As 2

5. On Castaway Cay, I'm not planning on any adventures, just lazing about the beach and a play in the water and hopefully grab a character or two. Is this possible and are there any tips on doing so i.e. interaction with any characters?
Yes. The characters have their Castaway outfits on and the times they are around are listed in the navigator. There is also a dance party I think at some point too.

6. We're on 2nd seating for dinner. I'm not sure whether to switch or not, I believe the shows will be fine, but don't want to be missing out on any deck parties, fireworks or such if we're on the later dinner?
You wont miss the fireworks as they will speed up dinner to help you make it up there. The only thing you might find is you don't want any of the food from the pirate buffett as its very close to when you have eaten but I've never found that an issue as apart from the desserts (which I have nibbled on) there isn't a great deal there I like

Hi
Shorts are fine at dinner, it's very relaxed. DCL only ask that you don't wear swimwear (so no swim shorts), cover-ups (beach robes etc for women) or vests (vest tops for women are ok, it's men that cannot wear vests). On optional dress up night, you MAY feel a little underdressed in shorts so maybe wear jeans that night? Smart dress shorts are absolutely fine though.

On a 3 night, your Pirate and Halloween night are combined. So they have Halloween stuff in the afternoon then Pirate Night in the evening (with fireworks and buffet).
Like Sarah says, just eat fast and get yourself up to top deck. The buffet is only on for around 30 mins and it's straight after the fireworks so be quick - it's in Cabanas.

For Castaway, you will see characters on your way to the beach. I would personally grab your spot on the beach first then go back to the characters. Daisy/Donald or Chip and Monk (Dale) are normally outside of the post office first thing. Mickey, Goofy and Minnie are at the second tram stop by the shop. You can see a map of CC HERE (look for the pictures of the cameras).

Hope that helps
Joa

Thanks, yeah I'll need to see about the optional dress, I don't plan on taking dinner shoes, so think I'll stick with the shorts which I think are quite smart. The girls can do the dresses.
