Any tips on price per person per night?

Hi

Looking at other cruises having done our first and liking it!

Do any of you seasoned cruisers have any tips, do you seasoned cruisers work out price by ppn before deciding to book?

Or, what is considered a good price per person per night to aim for?

Do you add in everything like gratuities etc before you work it out?

Thanks

I never look at a per person per night cost, maybe I should, but I don't.

I look at the total cost (not including tips for some reason) and if I think it's achievable, I book it. It's exactly the same if I was booking an all inclusive in Spain ... if the total cost looks ok, I book it.

With cruising, it's slightly different as some cruise lines give more and some give less. DCL, for instance have free youth clubs from 9am til the early hours. Some cruise lines charge after 8pm. Then there's upcharge restaurants, activities, soft drinks and even shows on some cruise lines.

My way works best for us ... if I think the price is ok, I'll book it and I don't worry with the price per night.

Sorry

Yes, we're used to doing that, just booking if it looks good, with other holidays to both the USA and elsewhere.

It's just that hubby was talking to someone who told us we always need to work out price per night, and we wondered if he was correct - or if most people did that with cruises.

Being a newbie I'm still pretty clueless really

Thank you - back to browsing...

I was pondering a similar question with my thread about Princess cruises! I have 5 cruises under my belt with 2 more booked but 3 have been with NCL. A bit like Bats I have tended to book when the value is there for us, I don't think I'm great at finding a bargain but we have always been happy overall with the perks/price ratio. However we always seem to meet people who have got the bargain of the century! That said we always book a balcony cabin either aft or mid ship and I can't imagine cruising in an inside cabin as I'm prone to sea sickness and find being able to step out into the fresh air really helps.
Happy browsing and you will have to let us know if you find a bargain!

I did see a cheap cruise For October half term on Royal Caribbean, £585 pp from memory I will see if I can find the email. No good for us as we don't need to travel in the school holidays anymore and we are off on a Celebrity cruise at the end of September

Oh Claire that would have been great - but (fortunately or unfortunately! ) we are in New York and Vegas over half term in October!
Thank you so much though, appreciate it!

Our one and only cruise so far was in a balcony cabin very close to front of ship
We have our next one booked (booked before we sailed our first) in an inside cabin - but hubby already said any future cruises we book he'd like balcony again.
If I find a bargain I'll let you know!

New York and Vegas how fabulous, I think I would definitely take that over a Med cruise in October

Like others have said, I look at the overall price and if I'm happy with that, book. I have heard people say that they look for a price of around £100 a night. I've rarely seen a balcony cabin as cheap as that.

We always check prices on a pppn basis - comparing like with like means excluding flights, gratuities, obc or any other freebies.
We've done over 30 cruises on 6 different cruise lines. At first we always had balcony cabins but now go for insides - we really don't spend too much time in the cabin. Being retired we are flexible when and for how long we go, so we search out the deals which means we have a limit of around £80ppn. Our upcoming cruises (all inside cabins) are: Transatlantic on Princess £59pppn, Caribbean on Princess £78pppn, Venice to Durban on MSC £54pppn. So for us, the lower the £pppn means more cruise days and cruises.😎
