Paying for a villa. (Is Paypal safe?)

We have just booked a villa have to pay the deposit.
Some of you may know we were scammed out of quite a lot of money 3 years ago whilst stupidly attempting to pay by bank transfer.
The options we have are:-
Personal cheque
Bank transfer
Paypal.
Is Paypal just as safe as paying with a credit card?
Obviously we would prefer to pay by credit card because of the protection that gives you.

We booked our Villa through Clickstay this year and were given the option to pay by paypal. It all went through ok for us and you can open disputes with them if things go wrong, in which they can freeze the paypal of the account you have paid to stop them withdrawing the funds. I'm sure someone will be along soon who has more knowledge on this than me but just thought id let you know we have done this before xx

I'm sure you are aware, (but just in case you're not) don't send PayPal payment as a "gift". Some sellers request this as a way of not paying PayPal fees, however you also don't have any buyer protection.

Not to scare anyone but we bought an item, paid with PayPal, when we realised we were never getting the item, probably a scam, PayPal blocked the other account but they had already taken the money so we lost out and didn't get it back.

If you book thru Clickstay they take cc for a small fee and then guarantee the villa stay!
Some villa owners use Click Stay using them as a booking co have set up to let guests pay thru them
otherwise it is difficult to use cc to pay privately
My guests either use the Click stay as a booking co option or pay by banktransfer ...otherwise just send a cheque straight to me
Good luck with your villa stay!
