How would we get to Fort Lauderdale for a cruise
I'm getting very tempted by some cruise prices in October. If we flew into MCO (cheapest flight option), what would be the best way to get to the ship in Fort Lauderdale? We are happy to drive but didn't know if there were other options. Edited at 12:18 PM. |

Cruised out of Florida three times but only once out of FL. For us the VS flight to MIA was cheapest option. We stayed overnight on Collins Avenue, South Beach and grabbed a cab on the day. Around $60 so possibly not cheapest option - didn't book but just got one outside the hotel.
It was 2013 so was that pre-Uber days? Never used Uber in my life though but that is probably cheaper now than a yellow cab. Not from MCO though. Mick

We go next month, we fly into Miami, pick up a car and then stay a night at the radisson at the port, where we can park the car for the duration of the cruise, they run a shuttle

Not being critical of your plans honest but you're paying for car hire and parking charges whilst you're on the cruise?
Following on from my earlier answer. When we disembarked at FL we hired from Sixt. Free shuttle from the port to downtown Sixt branch and we then drove to Highgate for another week or so. Mick

We’ve done lots of cruises out of Port Everglades flying into FLL, MIA, MCO and RSW. For us, a rental car is the only way to go - cheap and convenient.

One day hire car MCO to the port , pick up another car at the port when you disembark. Alamo etc have courtesy shuttles to their office . No point in paying hire charges and parking charges unless it's a really short cruise and you want to risk leaving stuff in the car.

Did similar last year and drove to Fort Lauderdale on the day direct to the airport to drop the car and then got a taxi over to the boat. On the way back get picked up from the port and taken to airport to collect car

You've got lots of options available to you. Fly into Miami and out of Orlando. Fly in to Fort L and out of Orlando. We have flown into Orlando hired an Alamo car to get to Ft L seaport, dropped the bags off, returned the car at an office just outside the dockyard and caught the shuttle back to the ship. When the ship docks, taxi to Ft L airport and pick up new vehicle.

When we dropped the car off at Alamo Fort Lauderdale we were taken to the ship in a free minibus. Alamo was so close you could see the ship. No effort at all. W just picked up another car coming back. No choice in cars but it was only for 2 days.
