Punga Racers (Volcano Bay) - new weight restriction
Anyone seen the new Tim Tracker vlog on Volcano Bay.
Shows that there is now a weight limit in place for Punga Racers at 150lbs / 68kg. Really? Never been restricted from a ride since I was 6. Strange and interested to know the reason for this! Edited at 08:04 PM. |

The official website (universalorlando/web...s/punga-racers) doesn't list a weight limit but it does list a height limit of 4 ft. (48 in.). Seems they may be reinforcing the fact it's meant to be a kids ride.

In some of the facebook groups I'm in, there is talk of a similar slide elsewhere by the same manufacturer where a man ended up paralyzed after having an accident on the slide. No official word on it from Universal, though, but apparently they're looking into ways of making the end of the slide safer and in the meantime they've brought down the weight limit.

I read about that sad accident. Didn't realise it might be a similar (or the same) ride

This is what crossed my mind too when I saw what type of ride it was...

I have to say I found the slide very uncomfortable when I did it in April and I'm not even that much over the new weight limit, so I had no intention of ever doing it again anyway.

Gone all Goofy

We went on Saturday and was shocked to see it as a Ride now. Headed over and yep scales at the ride entry. So many people turned away. It did mean we walked right to the top and rode straight away. Last year we queued for at least 30 minutes.
It is a rough hit at the bottom of the slide |
