Oh Rachy,
I just caught this thread. We would have done exactly the same as you did - I do all of the organising and my husband would go into blind panic without me. You remember that film where it showed the bad things that happened but then showed the worse things that might’ve happened if the bad things had never happened - maybe it is that - maybe you escaped worse by staying back a day. we got back today but in our first two days I tore my rotator cuff, had a car accident and my husbands aunty died back home- I might’ve deleted those first days given the choice. Have a great time from tomorrow xxx |

Hi lmartin, there already is (or was) a system in place; some airlines forward collected Advance Passenger Information to US CBP/DHS 72 hours pre-flight. No idea how many airlines continue to do so, VA, along with other airlines, no longer collect API until OLCI/check-in desk. API is forwarded once check-in closes.
Some may remember a Dibber who's ESTA was rescinded 72 hours preflight when their API hit the US, transpired the UK pp office had mistakenly cancelled his pp! The couple were fully reimbursed plus his pp was replaced, free of charge. Here's hoping Rachy, Carl and their family have a smashing holiday and cruise, man, do they deserve it

So let me get this right the moral to this is print out your confirmation, then you don’t have to start a new application , which unknowingly invalidates an existing esta.
Is this correct or have I missed something?

An existing/in date ESTA gets cancelled if a new application makes it to the payment page even if payment isn’t submitted.
This is what I did in July just before checking my existing ESTA. I checked and saw My ESTA was still in date so didn’t continue with payment not realising my actions had in fact cancelled what I had just checked
