Annoying that swan and dolphin gets added which isn't an official Disney property but if you stop at official none premium you don't get the benefit.
Disney just mixing messages in my opinion. |

I just don't get it, there must be something else coming up that would be beneficial to staying on official Disney property.
Still a bit miffed that I gambled on a moderate more likely to have benefits over partner hotels and at the moment seem to be losing. However reading reviews and seeing vlogs of the Dolphin I'm still pleased to have chosen somewhere else as if they can't even clean it properly at the moment... Hopefully some fast pass benefits for us moderates will come..

Technically, the Swan and Dolphin are official onsite Disney resorts, on Disney property and owned by Disney (but leased out). It's just that they are not run by Disney staff, instead they are run by Marriott, I think.
I believe they've always been classified in the deluxe category and hence I can see why they would get the same benefits as the other deluxe resorts, even though they are obviously 'different'. Plus, and more importantly, I would guess that Marriott are paying Disney extra to get these deluxe benefits. This does at least give people an extra option to consider if they want to get this evening EMH-like benefit.

Another thing to really annoy the masses of Disney loyal guests. If you have the money you can come and stay in any of our really expensive resorts but if you really have the money welcome to the club.
I’m presuming it’s probably going to wear thin the more and more benefits they reduce. It’s also bad marketing in the long run to treat 10% of guests staying in certain resorts but ignoring the other 90%. I wonder if they worked out whom spends the most the 10% in luxury resorts or 90% in lesser resorts would they flip their decisions. |

Giving extra benefits for the higher tier resorts is nothing new, Universal do it and no one complains about that. The only difference is that Disney never used to have tiering. So they'll get some negative reactions from repeat guests in the short term, but long term people will forget and treat it as normal. First time visitors won't know any different. Just like every other benefit that's changed over time.
But there's actually more deluxe rooms than you think. Out of just under 36k rooms on property, 13k are eligible for the deluxe benefits. If you only include Disney owned properties, it's 10k out of 28k. So either way, it's over a third. I can almost guarantee that third are spending way more on average than the remaining rooms. Even if they're not, I don't think DPEP are concerned about alienating the lower tiers. Even with zero benefits right now, people are still booking and showing up. Chapek also makes no secret that his business model is fewer customers spending more. He doesn't want the values full, he wants the deluxe market. Long term, if demand does decline in the lower tiers, I can see them pulling another Riviera and demolishing all or part of those resorts to convert to DVC. Edited at 07:31 PM. |
