cancelling again?
Hi everyone
So after a weekend of talking with DH he is adamant that we should cancel this years Aug trip and move it to next year I totally understand his reasons, he is worried about the prospect of having to quarantine either in Florida or when we get home and doesn't like the idea of wearing a mask in the heat but I am gutted! We had first trip booked for 2020 when DS would have been 11 so by the time we go next year he will be 13 and just not sure if he will enjoy it as much. Has anyone else taken teen boys to Disney? Did they still enjoy it? Sorry if they are silly questions but this is our first trip! |

It's so gutting but Disney when your son is 13 will still be as much fun, if not more! Your son will likely be tall enough for the biggest thrill rides then and there's so much to appreciate in places Star Wars and Toy Story at DHS. You may find his taste buds will have matured so he may be more likely to try more adventurous foods as well. I also think that no matter the age you can't help but be taken in by the magic around you. My brother has been going since he was 8 and loved it just as much in his teenage years. If you've got Universal budgeted in for your trip your son will love those parks too!

Disneyland works for pretty much any age group. It will just be a different selection of rides and experiences he will want. So different parks may appeal more than others.
On the cancelling side, unless you have a payment to make, is there a need to make a decision now? August is a long way off yet, we don't know whether travel will be allowed and under what conditions, or what the requirements will be in Disney / Universal etc. Maybe wait until things are clearer if there is no financial risk in doing so. |

I have a teenage boy and he can’t wait to go back to the Disney parks, especially Hollywood studios and animal kingdom. We took him to the Halloween party in aug 19, last time we went and he loved that. All the candy may have helped, but he does love all the ‘mountain’ rides.
We may not spend as much time in each park as we did when he was younger, as not bothered about meeting characters now, but will definitely be going back next year Edited at 01:58 PM. |

we too cancelled our august trip the other day for next year.
its just DH and i anyway but having cancelled last years trip for this year was gutting and was so looking forward to this year. that was my train of thought, masks and quaratine. when we went in 2017 our boys were 15 and 17 and enjoyed the evenings in the park more and splashing in the pool by day or shopping. it was a bit of a shocker on the pocket having been in 2010 when they was much younger and having the kids eat free card! lol what is his responce to not going this year? is he gutted and looking forward to next year or not bothered?

Ok you are not going to like to hear this Have you ever watched Harry Enfield & chums? Well we took "Kevin" on holiday! He was sort of OK once you got him to the parks, if you could get him to even go, never once in 3 weeks did he dip a toe in the pool, just a grumpy hormonal teenager for 3 weeks! The problem now of course is the "fear", the fear of missing something their friends are doing even though most of their friends would give their right arm to be in Florida!

6 months til the start of August guys, have faith, things are changing at a decent rate of pace, don't worry about the scare mongering news of variants, don't get sucked into everybody else cancelling their holidays.
If you are like me and have only paid a deposit, wait until the very last second and I'm even going to ask for an extra month. If the world makes very good process and Disney relaxes the mask mandate, I will be ON that plane before anyone else! If you've already paid I can understand you moving it, and I don't want anyone to feel pressured into anything either way, but the summer is long way away folks, lots of time for good news. |

Thanks everyone DS was gutted when we told him it probably wont happen this year and immediately asked if we could go next year so he is still excited at the moment! We will be doing Universal as well which I think he will love being a bit older and also the water parks.
I am not cancelling anything just yet but after last year I think DH just wants to agree to move everything now so we can plan a UK holiday instead, we left it too late last year and didn't get to go anywhere and he really doesn't want that to happen again. He is a key worker and the past year has been so stressful for him as it has for many others and I think he just feels like this holiday is another stress so postponing it just takes that stress away from him. |

My ds was nearly 12 when we went last, in 2019 and will be 14 when we go back next year, he can’t wait, absolutely loves theme parks, plus the snacks & constant supply of fizzy drinks & slushies! My daughter will be 16 next year so was 13 on our last visit, again, she loves theme parks, they both love Disney but as they’ve got older they prefer Universal/Sea World for the thrill rides. We’re very much a good with the flow family, and make sure we give them enough space and down time so the stroppy moments are minimal, which luckily works out fine, there’s no point dragging grumpy teenagers around a theme park in the Florida august heat, it just leads to grumpy parents and a ruined break, I’m never willing to risk that so as long as there’s give & take, it will always work for us 😀
