After recently losing my mum, I received a birthday card today just from my dad
Although really lovely this has hit me harder than I thought it would my dad never did the cards always mum, so lovely to receive it but so sad today because of this

I’m so sorry to hear you recently lost your mum.
The first everything is so hard.
I lost my mum on New Year’s Eve 1999 and all the birthdays were so hard but the first Christmas was awful when my dad walked in to our house on his own I just broke down.

I promise it does get better but it takes time xx

My dad died suddenly three days before my birthday in 2017. Mum gave me a card just from her, I can only imagine as she is always organised with cards that she would have had another one already written 🙄

After losing my daughter Isabel last year, cards have been really difficult emotionally for me. I just couldn’t bring myself to write any Christmas cards - the thought of not putting her name on them was too heartbreaking, so we made a donation to Claire House in her memory instead.

As she was known to everyone as Izzy Bee, I’ve since bought a little bee 🐝 stamp and yellow ink pad, and birthday cards etc now get a little 🐝 next to our names.

It is really sad, when my mum died I was sorting through her stuff a and I found a birthday card that she had bought for me , I knew it was mine as it said daughter on it and I'm an only one, there was one for my granddaughter too. It's the little things that really hit you hard

So very sorry to hear about your mum. Occasions are so hard.
People may think it is a bit strange but over the last few years I saved Christmas and birthday cards from my mum. Mum passed away March 2020 and I do put them up with the others now.
