I’m not disagreeing with you, my dog fits in with family and goes out when someone can take her, gets well fed and spoilt and digs the water in her paddling pool. She has playing sessions with her ducky and dad every evening after she eats. Yesterday I took her out and she walked me home again after 20 mins because she was puffing, sleeps on our bed or wherever she likes. She’s currently downstairs in front of the fan, she eats only Lilly’s kitchen food because she loves it. I’m glad you and your doggy nephew have a great bond and we all do our best for our furry friends x

6am for my 2 labradors, although I refuse to take the ball with me as it is just too much for them, even though they look at me with sad eyes!

Our young Lab is struggling with the heat (big show type Chocolate boy). I'm working from home so the back doors open and he can do his own thing during the day. Being used to 1 to 2 hour walks he does need to get out otherwise he goes stir crazy. Been leaving it until 8/9pm to take him out for a 20 to 25 minute sniff around the block at his pace. Fortunately we have plenty of grass verges and shade for him to get off the pavement. The sniffs tire him out as do some training sessions indoors - that will do him for now until the break in the weather at the weekend. Even though we only go out for a short stroll i still take water out for him.

We are away on holiday in an Airbnb cottage with our 11 year old small dog, Rolo, at the moment

It’s a challenge to keep him cool and we’re not out as much as we would usually be because of the weather. Today we stayed in the cottage all day. We drove to a nearby cafe and sat outdoors in the shade with our dog for a leisurely lunch, then rested back at our Airbnb until 4pm when we went out for a drive and went onto a beach in the evening when the temperature dropped enough to make it comfortable to sit on the beach.

I would like it to be a little cooler so we could explore the area a bit more, but keeping Rolo comfortable is the most important thing ar the moment. He does seem to be enjoying himself although it’s so hot

Glad everyone on here is sensible and puts their dogs (and cats) first. I didn’t expect anything different of Dibbers though tbh.

I can relate to the sniffing comments. My Cav, being a spaniel, always has his nose to the ground, so his walks are all about sniffs. He’s just having to make do with a quick sniff of the garden whilst doing his business 😆

I work in a vets and already we have have seen burnt paws and two french bulldog puppies die from heatstroke 😢. Brachy breeds certainly should not be exercised in this heat.

Last year out dog had heatstroke, it wasnt too hot, so i took him for a walk, vet said that some breeds really dont do well in heat and its the exursion that does the damage, so we now dont take him out when its over 20, keep him in the cool. If he does decide to go out he has a cool vest on, which he hates so prefers to stay in - laying on kitchen floor with fan on. Another thing with cool mats they should only be used under supervision as they can be chewed(especially like ours he will chew everything) i think we all do what is best for our dogs and pets. Here it has even been over 20 degrees early in the morning. I agree with the games of finding food, Zero loves frozen blueberries! Can sniff them out a mile off!

Definitely true Sandra, heatstroke is much trivialised.
I was at the vet picking up Riley’s avocate on Monday and there was an emergency came in.
It was awful I couldn’t get the poor dog out of my mind. I don’t know if it was that but I do know it wasn’t an attack or a RTA ,

I played hide the chicken last night with Riley , 15 mins of sniffing out chicken in our communal green outside our door , was equivalent of a 30 min “Boring” street walk for him.
He refuses to go street walks unless it’s the beach or the green 🥰

After his sniff fest 😘
