It is very popular to do and especially if you are having a destination wedding. A lot of couples will send them to their closest friends and relatives once the date is set so that there is no reason to miss out on the day. It isn't always the case that you send to every person on your guest list.
One of the most popular Save The Dates is a magnet that you can put on your fridge. Like everyone else said it is a nice way to be able to budget for or consider going if you are planning something away from home. |

Save the date cards for my brothers November wedding went out with their Xmas cards. However, everything about their wedding is OTT including the singing waiters!
We got married 10 years ago and although we did have a beautiful wedding i'd have been just as pleased to get married in the registry office. |

I hadn't heard of it until I saw the chick flick where 2 brides wanted the same wedding venue.

We are planning a wedding in Disney for April 2012 and I have ordered save the dates and going to send them out 2 years to the date im hoping to book. Personally if someone I knew was planning a wedding abroad I would want as much notice as possible to save, get an idea of the date etc. We will then send out proper invites we all details of exact date, times & locations nearer the time as these things can't be confirmed with Disney until 8 months out and I wouldn't want to leave it that late to let my guests know.
Heres a picture of the ones we've had done, which were actually really cheap. |

I thought they were really cute too, i wanted my invites to be like my colour theme and fit in with my sparkle theme so i thought it would be good to have the save the dates completely different and have them incorperate Disney. I also order princess ones too for my girls day im planning a couple of days before the wedding
