Mobile Faulty car horn - sounding every hour

No sleep for me tonight 😢😡

It appears that someone down the road has a problem with their car horn as it’s been giving a loud honk every 1/2 hour since early yesterday evening.

It started around 6pm with the horn sounding for a few minutes and we though it was somebody messing around. It happened a few times and by 8:30pm each time it had gotten longer and longer to the point that lots of people were outside trying to see what was going on. No sign of anybody in any of the cars so it was clearly doing it itself.

After that long episode it stopped doing the long bursts and has been sounding every half hour meaning I’ve had an awful nights sleep.

Any idea what would cause this?

If it was my car I’d be trying to make it stop so it wasn’t disturbing others but I’ve not seen anybody attend to the car at all. Maybe they’re on holiday? Or away for the night? I really hope it doesn’t carry on much longer.

Alarm system failure, corroded contacts on the horn, or clock spring failure in the steering wheel.

Still going, I’ve given up on any sleep and warned everyone that I’m going to be grumpy today.

We’ll the owner wasn’t away, he went out to the car and did something about half hour ago and it then didn’t sound at 9:53 as expected so looks like he fixed it without too much difficulty. Shame he couldn’t have done that last night before I was disturbed at 23 and 53 mini past every hour 😡

The car is on his drive five doors away from us so I’m sure plenty of others were disturbed too, guess he just didn’t care.

This happened in our old house, the neighbour was at home but had apparently been asleep for two days.
Another neighbour called the non emergency police number and they came out and almost banged her door down before she answered.
It’s a difficult one as if someone touches the car they could be liable.

Put a note on his car next time
And say if he doesn’t sort it you’ll knock at his door
It amazes me how these alarms wake the whole neighbourhood but the only one who doesn’t seem to get disturbed is the owner 🤦🙄🤷

Surely he was away? The noise would be just as annoying to him as anyone else otherwise.

Could it be the owner has just got home after being out for the night? I find it hard to believe someone would let a car alarm continue to go off like you describe and not do something about it if they knew.

Maybe. Let’s hope it was that and not him just ignoring it.
