Universal Annual Pass - buying before visit?
Is it possible to buy Universal Annual Passes before visiting the parks?
We're visiting next August and wondered if we could pre purchase - a) to lock in prices, and b) to avoid parking charges on first visit.

You can purchase them online, and then they a activated and valid for a year from the first time you use them, but I think this is just an e ticket that would need to be exchanged when you arrive, I'm sure they don't post the actual passes to the UK, which means you would have to pay for parking on your first visit. Unless you went in after 6pm on your first day (free parking after 6pm) and picked your passes at guest services, so you were all set for your first park day.

Yes it says you have to pay for parking on your first visit, unless you go after 6.
Very easy to collect annual passes we found. |

Interested in answers to this too
We're visiting next June and want to get APs, but the current offer of free months on their site at the minute says you need to activate before (some date in) April 2019. Also, unless I'm mistaken, it seems you couldn't select a date beyond December this year as the start date of your visit. My plan was just to look after the new year. I wonder if they always have some kind of free months offer on?

You have to pay for parking on first visit, but what you can do it drop the car at the Valet parking , this has its own security with no line and it right by the cinema. On return to the car you will have your AP and can use this for reduced parking (if you have the Preferred AP), which reduces the cost to the same price as regular parking. You just need to give a few $$ Tip.
Universals Security can be very busy in the morning, so this doe save some time and walking.

Do they often do the free months offer?
We are not going till Aug. Want AP's as will go back. If they don't do the offer often, or not till the "fall", then i might as well buy them now before any price rises (and not activate them till august). Or i wait, i guess prices go up next year, but hopefully get an extra 3 or 6 months next time the offer is on. Not sure what to do. Any universal AP gurus out there that can advise? |

We're going to buy sooner rather than later (same with Disney AP) to avoid price rises, but are waiting until after Black Friday / January sales.
A couple of years ago, Disney did a 13 month annual pass which we used over two Easters (and Christmas!)

Universal's Annual Pass webpage states "This pass must be activated between October 4, 2018 and April 4, 2019".
So you must activate the Annual Pass before 4th April 2019. If you're not visiting until June, then you'll have to wait until you can buy the Annual Pass online. Or buy a 14-day ticket now and upgrade to the annual pass when over there. I've just tried dummy booking an Annual Pass and at no point does it ask for the start date. You don't have to select a start date if you select the Annual Pass option. If you are talking about the 1/2/3/4/5 day tickets, then it allows you to select any date between now and the end of March 2019. If you are not visiting until August next year, then you can't buy an Annual Pass at the moment. If you buy an AP online now, then it must be activated at the parks before 4th April 2019. So, I'm afraid you will have to wait and hope they do the offer with extra months next year.

that was what I thought.I'm also sure the pass prices have gone up a bit since the offer started.
