Be aware: Alamo Return
We'd opted for a gold package so to fill up ourselves on return. If we filled it up, it was about $3.26 per gallon whereas Alamo would charge over $2 per gallon more. When we checked our paperwork as we were leaving, we noticed it was stamped "Refuel option chosen", whereas we'd been told as we left that we could choose to return it empty if we wished, but we made it clear didn't want to. When we dropped the car off, we took a photo of the fuel gauge to show it was full and then queried it. Sure enough, we had already been pre-receipted for the fuel before we'd arrived back with the car! The staff in the garage were really helpful and we got our zero balance receipt, but I just wanted to make others aware so no one gets a $80 shock on their statement. The lady on customer services admitted that this was a bit of sharp practice that were having problems with.

I thought the gold package included the the 1st tank of fuel therefore you should've returned the car with little or no fuel ?

Same thing happen to us and about 20 other irate customers last.
Told 3 times to return the car full upon collection and when we returned it the girl at the garage told us we had been charged for prepaid fuel  Managed to get it refunded. Kim |

Just returned two cars to Alamo - one in California, the other in MCO. Returned both full - no issues at all.
There are two main things everyone needs to do when returning the car - 1. Know exactly what you have (and haven't) bought and paid for. 2. Deal with any issues at the car return there band then - NOT afterwards when you get home. |

The Gold package includes the tank of gas so you should return empty. We choose silver with the Refuel ourselves and return Full.

Just looked at my Alamo receipt for last month. I asked for the prepaid option when I did my savetime and they stamped "fuel service selected - no refunds for unused fuel" in red on the rental agreement. They charged $3.76 a gallon.
So the op had "refuel option chosen" stamped on theirs and they still got charged ... hopefully just a mistake by the return handlers but just goes to show you need to check. The pump price around town was around $3.50 so not an excessive mark up anyway all supposing you are going to use a full tank. Edited at 03:57 PM. |
