I've taken loads of Uber trips over the past year in both San Francisco and New York. Never had an issue although there are legal issues with the traditional taxi services not happy that their business is being squeezed.

Also watch out for Surge pricing when there are more customers than drivers - the price goes up - however the app always tells you this beforehand.

Finally, this is an app based taxi. You can't call anyone up - you will need to have a smartphone and data to use it!

From what i believe Orlando has approved Uber!
The controversy over them is happening everywhere! all the black cabs went up in protest last year in London.
Sadly every business model has to evolve and apps like Uber are the future.

I used Uber in san francisco last week - can 100% recommend them. We had one problem where a driver said he had picked us up and the app showed we were being charged. I cancelled it and was charged $10 - Ubrer refunded the money the same day within hours and promised to speak to the driver to see what happened - he probably hit the wrong button. another Uber arrived within a short time too.

Am hoping Uber comes to my city soon - the black cabs here are lazy and complacent - always trying to take you down a longer route to bump the fair etc.

There is a new by-law in Orlando forcing Uber to charge the same as Taxi's for each journey.

That will get shot down very quickly in State imo. Its quite simply price fixing.

If I was Uber, I would ignore it and go to court. They'll win.
