Totally agree, but it does effect those going before the cut off date in June and that date may slip, again like the December one did. Probably not as they seem more organised now than before, time will tell.

Mobile new dvla rules with car hire?

Hi all

Has anyone else heard about the new rules coming into effect on June 8th regarding paper counterpart driving licences?

According to what I've just read from June 8th you can no longer use your paper part of driving licence when hiring a car abroad, you now have to go online and get a special code from the dvla to show when you get to the car hire desk!

I didn't know anything about this so thought i would give you all a heads up

I know that they're effectively retiring the paper counterpart (it's going to be online), however I've never shown it anyway when hiring a car in FL, always just use the photocard.

Thanks for the info, I shall now get the PDF, the pass code and still take my paper one. I can get stressed when travelling so am pretty OCD when it comes to taking a full travel pack - I have one and so does my hubby.

The DVLA website says after 8th June the counterpart becomes invalid but I feel the need to hang on to it too for November. Silly but would take the kitchen sink if I had to lol xxx

Well that's going to be a right palaver when Ian & I come out at different times and another bit of paper to print or keep on the iPad looks like I'll need to get more than aŁ9:99 phone now to keep all the stuff on
