"Lone" Parent and DCL?

Hello all!

So planning for our Florida holiday next year, I began to be tempted by the idea of a DCL add-on. I have ALWAYS wanted to take a cruise, so I priced it out, spoke to a TA - and then asked my husband - who said..."You and (DS) go. I could never do that."

Long story short, he is worried about drowning. In fact, pathologically afraid of drowning. I have revisited the idea with him (gently) over the last couple of months - he just can't bring himself to do it. And that's sad, but OK - we all have our fears.

Now, DS and I are used to having half our holidays without Dad/Hubby (as he has his own business and so usually can only join us for a few days at a time). But I've never cruised before, so I'm just not sure about this plan...

Are there any single/lone parents out there that think a cruise was a good fit for their family?

AND...does anybody have any tips for me?

Thanks!

EDIT: Sorry, should have said - our DS is nine.

Hi
I am a single parent and took my three boys on a Disney cruise this summer
We all loved it and am doing the same again next year.

There are so many options onboard regarding activities and clubs and there is a spa that you can go to whilst he is in kids clubs.

I joined a facebook group before i went for this cruise and we all met up on the first day.
This was nice as it gave me other adults to talk to .

I would definitely go, it was such an amazing holiday.

I don't do Facebook but I have heard about other people doing that pre-cruise...hmm...my son is an only child so it might be nice to "know" a few other people beforehand...

Thanks for the advice!

Good advice! A DCL cruise is certainly a holiday that I would go on by myself with the kids. On our first Dcl cruise we met a single dad with his 3 year old daughter at the table next to us and he said that it was a great way to holiday.

On our DCL cruise this year we joined the Facebook group before we went and through this the kids both had a penpal who they emailed with before we went. We met up the the first day at the meet and the kids were firm friends throughout the cruise and we met up with the parents. Definitely a great way to meet fellow cruisers.

There may be Dibbers going on the same cruise too.
*I need to update the 'who is going and when' list*!

Hi April I would definitely go on my own. We went this year with my husband it felt so safe and so much to do. DS is 7 and we did lots of activities together such as shows, quizzes, treasure hunts etc while my hubby slept with the baby. He really enjoyed the kids clubs and it was nice to have a break I wouldn't hesitate to take him on my own if my hubby wasn't able to go. I also would join a facebook group and sign up to a fish extender if you can my kids loved getting gifts and going around delivering our gifts was so much fun too!
