Arthritis pain
Im on anti inflammatorys for arthritis and I take paracetamol for the pain, its bad in cold weather but its also bad in dry weather! My hands are agony at the minute and as I type for work its pretty rough. Does anyone take anything stronger than paracetamol for the pain?
Just want to know if its worth going to my doctor for anything or if im doing as much as I can |

Do you know what type of arthritis you have? I have RA and use medication to treat the condition rather than the pain.
If you have OA then pain relief is the main treatment. There are different anti-inflammatories so ask your GP to try a different one or a higher strength. Opioid pain relief is stronger than paracetamol (co-codamol, co-dydramol, tramadol etc) but, in my experience, GP's are becoming more hesitant to prescribe. |

No have never looked into what type of arthritis I have. Its genetic throughout my family, have been on naproxen for a few years now and also take rosehip.
The constant aches are starting to get me down and I try not to do that as I have other stuff going on. |

My GP was the opposite! Co-codamol 500/30 x2, 4 times a day and physio and get on with it! Have my first physio appt. Thursday and am hoping to get a bit more input from them!
I sympathise it does hurt

I suffer with arthritis and have done since I was 19. The Dr first gave me Acematacin which was amazing. I thought it was some kind of arthritic medication but when ever I went to other Drs/specialists ( as regular checkups) they had not heard if it. Turns out it was just a anti-inflammatory tablet... but it worked wonders.
I am now on Methatrexate and ( touch wood) have no problems with pain/aches at all. Go to see your doctor as there is new stuff all the time coming out. |

Id go back to the go is I were you and get a referral to a rheumatologist. I was diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis about 15 years ago and to begin with wasnt too bad but unfortunately it got worse and I was in constant pain. Im now on a biologic drug (simponi) and touch wood but not a single ache or pain -its absolutely amazing.

I suffer with pain in my hands very badly and even gave up my knitting, but a doctor told me to carry on in short bursts with knitting and on the laptop, do hand exercises.
I design knitting patterns so use my hands a lot and am so pleased the exercises have helped. I am taking half the amount of pain tablets now. Oh also I use Aloe heat gel, smells a bit strong to start with but that helps as well. You tube have some good hand exercises, today on Loveknitting they have a blog post showing some as well. Hope this helps.

As others have said, you need a proper diagnosis.
I went to my doctor and was referred to a consultant rheumatologist, who I see three times a year. I have Psoriatic arthritis and am on Methotrexate. It has been very effective and whilst not pain free, it helps a lot.
