Well, thanks to James and this excellent trip report we have now booked a 12 night Norwegian fjords cruise for next year on the Crown Princess. Looking forward to it already

Oooh! 12 nights in that part of the world will be amazing.
What's your itinerary?

I really hope so. It fulfills another lifelong ambition, which is to visit the 'Land of the Midnight sun' - we almost made it on the Baltic cruise last month but this one goes a lot further North so on a couple of days the sun won't actually set at all. Here's the itinerary:
1 London (Southampton), England 2 At Sea 3 Stavanger, Norway 4 Flaam, Norway (After seeing your photos this was a must) 5 Hellesylt, Norway (Scenic Cruising) 5 Geiranger, Norway 6 Trondheim, Norway 7 At Sea 8 Honningsvag (North Cape), Norway (This is the Midnight sun part) 9 Tromso, Norway 10 At Sea 11 Bergen, Norway 12 At Sea 13 London (Southampton), England There are 2 Day 5 entries because we stop for 2 hours in Hellesylt and then move on to Gerainger in the afternoon. We will do our own thing in each port rather than pay for the Princess excursions and I've already got some ideas for what we will do, but if you can give me any 'must-sees' that would be great.

Definitely do the railway at Flaam - much cheaper to DIY but spectacular scenery! If you get off early and book an early train you can have coffee & waffles at the hotel at the top which are to die for!
If there is a clear day at Bergen then the funicular is worth a trip for some amazing views - also check out Bryggen the amazing row if shops along the waterfront by the Market - and check out the back alleys as we missed them the first time! Enjoy! |
