Rip off.
I find all these meal boxes ridiculous. |

If by "decent steak" you mean one that is not cremated, it is possible on BA, but requires flying in First (not enough time or oven space in other cabins) and cooperative cabin crew willing to follow some precise instructions, which may not be entirely in line with BA policies...
As for these meals, the price is a little on the high side, but everything is relative. Do&Co is one of the best airline caterers out there, I've had some of these dishes or very similar onboard with BA, and the quality isn't bad at all. BA's pre-pandemic upgraded economy meal offerings were in the £18-25 p/p range IIRC (on top of having the cost of the basic meal already included in the fare), so £40-50 per person for a 4 course First meal isn't completely out of whack in that context, accepting you have to cook it yourself. They have gone for some of the less expensive ingredients (beef cheeks and filled pasta). Value, as always, is in the eye of the beholder. The recent proliferation of fine dining restaurants offering similar products means this may not stand up so well on its own, the marketing gimmick of the "airline experience" no doubt contributes something to the price. I do agree with your point about preferring to support local businesses for such things at the moment, but this is a harmless fun offering. |

I disagree - I have flown FIRST and Frst and Concord many hundred of times over the years and have had some of the most god darn awful cremated steaks - I like mine rare Also had some good ones But I eat well (as many will know) and I eat at the best restaurants in Town and would never pay £100 for a meal to cook at home where I can get great meat from my local butcher Moen and sons (reputed to be of the best butchers in UK) and veg from Borough Market all for under a tenner and cook myself Each to their own I guess |
