Booking delta internal flights with Virgin?

Hi we are trying to book virgin, LHR to JFK, then an internal flight to MCO, but virgin have told us that we have to book the internal flights with delta directly and then the flights can be combined onto a through ticket? We have never done it this way before, virgin have always booked the delta flight for us? Anyone any recent experience of this?

Are they saying you have to book both flights independently ?

I have booked a Virgin flight to MCO from LHR on a single ticket that stopped at Atlanta. all this was done through Virgin. I did have to go onto the Delta website to book seats for the internal flight though.

I have also booked flights independently which is as you suggested two separate bookings (although I’m unsure why Virgin are suggesting you do this)

Word of warning if you book flights on separate tickets. On my return through Atlanta (on a single ticket) we were delayed because of thunder storms at Orlando and missed the flight to Heathrow. As it was a single ticket Virgin managed to get us home (eventually via Paris) Others who had booked separate tickets weren’t so lucky and had to make their own way home.

We did this route last trip. All booked on one ticket with delta.

I wouldn’t be happy with 2 tickets.
