Mobile Travellers cheques

Firstly and most importantly are they still used? Are there many places that don't accept them?

Only reason why I'm asking is that I am planning to take a combination of cash, tc's and currency card

The way they are used is a bit different now. You will find small shops and certain chains unwilling to use them or not knowing how to use them. Instead its easy to cash them on a daily basis at hotel reception or publix customer service. Still very safe way to take money

We have brought them this time. I have been a big fan of them as they help us budget but I don't think we will bring them again. We have used them to pay off our Disney charges or cashed them at the Disney hotel front desk. Every single time the person has never seen them before and has to get the manager. Manager is always fine and we have been able to cash /spend them ok but I think if Disney staff are unfamiliar with them then their days are numbered.

We work with a daily budget. Where we take a fixed amount out if the safe each day. Sounds old fashioned but it works well for us. I don't know how we will do this with a prepaid card. It will require me to keep track of spending and I don't want to do that on holiday. By taking out my daily budget I know I'm on track without thinking about it.

We went in May with travellers cheques from our last visit (12 years earlier!) and found it completely different to previous visits. It was ok for us at Disney and Universal parks but in many other places the cashier had to get a colleague to help and Golden Corral don't take them at all. In some shops it seemed easier for the cashier to decline a cheque rather than get a colleague. I don't think we would take travellers cheques again but I got a good rate on my purchases with a Halifax Clarity Card so not all bad!

I took them in 2014 and as they were widely accepted, I found that younger members of staff in places didn't know what to do with them and had to call a supervisor/manager. This was a bit of a faff for me as when I'm finished eating, I want to be on my way and I don't want to be holding up a queue.

I have a Monzo card for 2018 and will have my Clarity Card for back up, then a bit of cash for tips.
