We land on August 16th in Miami at 17:25, so I reckon we will be in the car by 19:00 having used Alamo online checkin.

Option 1 is to drive all the way and take regular stops, coffee etc...

My preference is drive roughly halfway and grab a cheap hotel en route, can anyone recommend a stop over or would atttemp the full drive?

Also do you advise turnpike or inland route?
We landed at Miami November last year we were off the plane and driving out the airport within 50 minutes that was using Alamo on line check in.

If you're landing at 1725, and hoping to get going by 1900, that's going to be midnight by your UK body clock isn't it?!
I love driving, even long distances, but there's no way I'd drive more than an hour after being up that long. I think the suggestion of a hotel in Miami or a little way out towards Orlando would make a lot of sense

Enjoy what Fort Lauderdale has to offer , great beach, lots of places to eat and drink and regard it as a bonus not a loss of holiday. Leisurely daylight drive the next morning arriving in Orlando before lunch.
For the "loss" of one morning in the theme parks you get an extra beach experience and a safer journey to Orlando.

There's so much more to Florida than Orlando .

Firstly thanks all for your replies, the Dibb is fab!

I am settling down on West Palm Beech, there are 2 adults and 3 kids so we need enough space, they offer 2 double beds & sofa bed for £109 in the Hyatt Place West Palm Beach.

Google maps seems to suggest 1 hr 20 to west palm beech, leave 2hrs 50 in the morning to Orlando

Thanks again

So I reckon it’s.

Oh for those who drive regularly, what do I do about the tolls? I remember last time they are toll by plate and I couldn’t pay it and no one chased me for it.

I am with Alamo, I have checked in online and there was no option for a sun pass

All Alamo cars come with a automatic toll pass. They charge you an admin fee per 24 hours of use (a few dollars), so if you use it once, you may as well use it for the entire journey.
